Magnesium nitrate can be used as a dehydrating agent for concentrated nitric acid, a catalyst, a wheat ashing agent, a raw material for manufacturing explosives, and for other magnesium salts and nitrates. It is also used as an analytical reagent and for the preparation of magnesium salts. In agriculture, it is used as a soluble nitrogen-magnesium fertilizer for soilless cultivation.
